Two motorcyclists lost their lives, and a pedestrian sustained injuries in a tragic road accident that occurred at Nagchala on the Kiratpur-Manali four-lane highway under the Nerchowk police station in Mandi district on Tuesday.
Details of the Incident
According to the police, Iman Negi, a resident of Kinnaur district, along with his associate Manoj Kumar, was returning from Parwanoo to Jogindernagar after delivering goods. When they reached near an iron footbridge at Nagchala, Manoj Kumar attempted to cross the four-lane road on foot. At that moment, a motorcycle struck him with great force.
The impact of the collision caused the motorcycle to veer and subsequently collide with a parked vehicle on the roadside. The motorcycle riders were identified as Rajeev Kumar of Marathu and Pradeep Kumar of Chanda Nanaw, both from Mandi district.
Emergency Response and Fatalities
All three individuals—Rajeev Kumar, Pradeep Kumar, and Manoj Kumar—were rushed to the Medical College in Nerchowk for urgent medical attention. Sadly, Rajeev and Pradeep succumbed to their injuries during treatment. Manoj Kumar is currently undergoing medical care and his condition is being monitored.
Police Action and Investigation
Mandi Superintendent of Police (SP) Vinod Kumar confirmed the details of the incident. He stated that postmortem examinations of the deceased were conducted at the medical college in Nerchowk, after which the bodies were handed over to their respective families for last rites.
The police have registered a case under Sections 281 and 125(A) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). An investigation is currently underway to determine the exact circumstances leading to the accident and to ascertain any negligence involved.
This tragic event highlights the dangers faced by pedestrians and motorcyclists on high-speed four-lane highways. Authorities urge all commuters to exercise caution and adhere to traffic rules to prevent such incidents.
