Tragic Deaths in Koppal Village Linked to Illicit Alcohol Consumption

In a distressing incident from Koppal district, two individuals have lost their lives, and a third is currently undergoing medical treatment after allegedly consuming alcohol supplied by an unauthorized seller. The tragic event unfolded in Kukapanapalli village, casting a shadow over the local community.

Details of the Victims and the Incident

The deceased have been identified as Amarayya Hiremath, aged 35, and Ramesh Hosahalli, aged 25, both residents of Kukanapalli village. According to police reports, the incident occurred on the night of February 4, when a group of four individuals consumed the alcohol at a farm. Following this, they fell severely ill, leading to the hospitalization of one person at KMC-RI in Koppal.

The complaint filed by Yamanappa Hosahalli, father of the deceased Ramesh, alleges that Maruti Bandi and Sharanappa Gurikar supplied the alcohol from a tanker, despite being aware that it was not fit for consumption. "Both are responsible for the tragedy," he stated, highlighting the negligence involved. Notably, villagers reported that Bandi and Gurikar did not consume the spirit themselves, raising further questions about their actions.

Police Action and Arrests

In response to the incident, the Munirabad police have taken swift action. Superintendent of Police Ram L Arasiddi confirmed that the duo, Maruti Bandi and Sharanappa Gurikar, has been arrested in connection with the case. The formal complaint was registered on February 7, leading to their apprehension. The police are investigating the source of the illicit alcohol and the circumstances surrounding its distribution.

This case underscores the dangers associated with unauthorized alcohol sales, which often bypass safety regulations and can lead to fatal consequences. The community in Koppal is now grappling with the loss, while authorities emphasize the importance of cracking down on such illegal activities to prevent future tragedies.
