A tragic hit-and-run incident in West Champaran district has claimed the lives of two young men and left a third fighting for his injuries. The accident occurred near Mandi Bazar under the Jagdishpur police station area on Wednesday morning.
Details of the Fatal Collision
According to police reports, the victims were on a motorcycle when they were struck by an unidentified speeding vehicle. The impact was severe, leading to immediate critical injuries for all three riders. The deceased have been identified as Guddu Kumar, aged 20, from Majharia Kishun ward no. 14, and Rishi Kumar, aged 19, from Sirahi Mathiya ward no. 9.
The third youth, 21-year-old Raviranjan Kumar from Majharia Kishun, survived the crash but sustained serious injuries. He was rushed to a hospital in Patna for advanced medical treatment and remains under care.
A Night Out Ends in Tragedy
Harischandra Mahato, a relative of the injured Raviranjan, provided context to the somber event. He revealed that the three were close friends. On Tuesday night, they had gone to a neighboring village to watch an orchestra performance. The fatal collision happened in the morning hours as the trio was returning home to Majharia Kishun.
"A heavy vehicle hit them from behind or the side while they were on their way back," Mahato stated, highlighting the sudden and violent nature of the accident that killed Guddu and Rishi on the spot.
Police Investigation Underway
Sadar SDPO Rajneesh Kant Priyadarshi detailed the police response. Upon receiving the alert about the road accident, a team promptly reached the location. All three injured youths were quickly transported to the nearest medical facility.
"Doctors at the hospital declared two of the youths dead upon arrival. We have registered an FIR against the unknown vehicle and its driver, and a thorough investigation is currently underway to identify and apprehend the culprit," the SDPO affirmed. The police are examining the scene for evidence and likely reviewing any available CCTV footage from the area around Mandi Bazar to trace the fleeing vehicle.
This incident has once again brought the issue of road safety and reckless driving on Bihar's roads, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas like Bettiah, into sharp focus. The local community is in mourning as families grapple with the untimely loss of the young men.
