Two elderly women found dead mysteriously in Delhi home

NEW DELHI: Two elderly women were discovered dead under mysterious circumstances inside their residence in Central Delhi's New Rajinder Nagar area on Thursday morning, police reported.

Incident Details

According to the Delhi Police, the incident came to light after a foul smell was reported emanating from House No. R-852 in New Rajinder Nagar at around 10:30 AM. The information was provided by a maid who works in the porch area of the house and had arrived after being absent for two days.

A police team led by the investigating officer reached the spot and entered the house. Inside, officers found two women—Chandra Kanta and Saroj Bala, both aged around 80 years—lying unconscious. One body was found on the bed, while the other was on the floor. A foul smell was emanating from the premises, prompting the police to break open the gate to gain entry.

Investigation and Findings

Police stated that no signs of forced entry, theft, ransacking, or disturbance were found during the inspection of the single-storey house, which has four access points. Preliminary enquiry revealed that both women had been living together at the residence for a long time. Saroj Bala was unmarried, while Chandra Kanta was her sister-in-law. Police sources indicated that one of the women was an asthma patient.

The Crime Team, Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team, and CAT Ambulance were called to the spot. After examination, both women were declared dead. No external injury marks were found on either body. During preliminary inspection and enquiry from neighbours, no foul play has come to notice at this stage; however, all possible angles are being thoroughly examined, Delhi Police said.

Legal Proceedings

The bodies have been sent to RML Hospital for post-mortem proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and legal action will be taken based on the post-mortem report. Further investigation is underway.
