A 52-year-old school teacher lost her life in a tragic road accident on Pune's busy Katraj-Kondhwa road on Monday morning. In a separate incident in Wagholi, a 21-year-old man died after a dumper rammed his motorcycle early Sunday. The police have arrested the truck driver involved in the first case and are searching for the dumper driver in the second.
Katraj-Kondhwa Road Tragedy: Teacher Succumbs to Injuries
The deceased has been identified as Rama Lalitprasad Kapadi (52), a resident of Shrinivas Sankul, Mauli Nagar, located on the Katraj-Kondhwa road itself. According to the Kondhwa police, Rama Kapadi, a teacher, left her home on a two-wheeler on Monday morning, heading to school.
However, near the Kesar Lodge on the same road, a speeding truck knocked her down. The impact of the collision was severe, leaving her critically injured on the road. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, but doctors pronounced her dead upon arrival.
Following the accident, a police team led by senior police inspector Kumar Ghadge and inspector Navnath Jagtap visited the spot. The police subsequently arrested the truck driver, identified as Devendra Basannapalli (45) from Telangana. He has been booked under charges of negligent driving. Police sub-inspector Ravindra Gawade is conducting the further investigation.
Her daughter, Revati, lodged the First Information Report (FIR) at the Kondhwa police station.
Second Fatal Crash in Wagholi: Youth Dies, Driver Absconding
In another heartbreaking road mishap, a young man died after a dumper hit his motorcycle in Ubale Nagar, Wagholi. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday.
Police identified the victim as Asif Yakub Ansari (21), a resident of Wagholi. Preliminary reports suggest Asif was riding the motorcycle with a friend when the dumper knocked them down around 1:40 am.
Asif sustained fatal injuries in the crash. His brother, Miraz Shaikh, filed the FIR at the Wagholi police station. The police have launched a search operation to trace and apprehend the dumper driver, who fled the scene after the accident.

These back-to-back fatal accidents have once again highlighted the critical issue of road safety on Pune's streets and highways. The death of a school teacher during her morning commute and the loss of a young life in a late-night crash point to a persistent problem of reckless and negligent driving involving heavy vehicles.
