Tragic Accidents in Gurgaon: Two Young Girls Die in Separate Playtime Incidents
In a heartbreaking turn of events, two young girls lost their lives in separate accidents while playing in Gurgaon on Sunday evening. The incidents have left families devastated and authorities investigating the circumstances.
Fatal Swing Accident in Sector 9
A 13-year-old girl, identified as Rani Kumari, died in a tragic accident at her home in Sector 9. Rani was the eldest daughter of Suresh Singh, a tailor who resides with his wife and three daughters in a rented accommodation in Devilal Colony. The family originally hails from Sitamarhi in Bihar.
According to police reports, Rani tied her mother's saree to a wall-mounted grille to create a makeshift swing. While playing with her sisters, she began spinning around using the saree for support. During this activity, the cloth suddenly tightened around her neck, leading to strangulation.
As Rani lost consciousness, family members rushed her to a nearby government hospital. Unfortunately, doctors declared her dead upon arrival. Officials from the Sector 9A police station reached the spot and sent the body for autopsy. Police stated that while the case appears to be an accidental death, all aspects are being thoroughly examined to rule out any foul play.
Drowning Tragedy in Sultanpur Area
In a separate incident, a six-year-old girl named Chhavi died after falling into a small water tank in a field while playing with her sisters in the Sultanpur area of Farrukhnagar. The accident occurred when Chhavi and her three-year-old younger sister both fell into the tank. While the younger sister managed to come out of the water, Chhavi could not escape.
The sisters frantically called for their parents, but by the time help arrived, Chhavi had drowned. Police have initiated inquest proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and conducted an autopsy. The body was later handed over to the family for the last rites.
Community and Police Response
These tragic incidents have highlighted the dangers that can lurk in everyday play environments. Police officials emphasized that both cases are being treated as accidental deaths, but investigations are ongoing to ensure no negligence or other factors contributed to the outcomes.
Key Details from the Investigations:
- Rani Kumari's death resulted from strangulation by a saree used as a swing.
- Chhavi's death was due to drowning in a water tank in an open field.
- Both families are from modest backgrounds, with Rani's father working as a tailor.
- Autopsies have been conducted in both cases to determine the exact causes of death.
Authorities urge parents and guardians to supervise children closely during playtime, especially in environments with potential hazards like makeshift structures or open water sources. These tragedies serve as a somber reminder of the importance of child safety measures in residential and rural areas.
