Arrests Made in Abetment Suicide Case

Shahkot police have arrested two individuals on charges of abetting the suicide of a retired police officer. The accused have been identified as Baljinder Singh Kandi, a former sarpanch of Kang Wale Bille village under Mehatpur police station, and Subeg Singh, a resident of Dharmiwal village under Shahkot police station. The arrests were confirmed by SHO Aman Saini.

The victim, Harbhajan Singh, a retired police officer and resident of Kania Kalan village, allegedly consumed poison (sulphas) after being subjected to harassment by his daughter-in-law, Navdeep Kaur, and her parents and relatives. He later died on the way to the hospital. His wife, Kulwant Kaur, filed a complaint with the police, leading to the arrests.

Rash Driving Case Filed in Mehatpur

In a separate incident, Mehatpur police have booked a man for rash and negligent driving. The accused, Tarsem Singh, a resident of Bhangwan village under Lohian Khas police station, was allegedly driving his Tata Ace vehicle recklessly on June 27. According to the complainant, Jaspal Chand of Udhowal village, the vehicle hit his motorcycle, causing serious injuries to him, his wife, son, and daughter. Investigating Officer Janak Raj is handling the case.

Expired Medicine Leads to Death

Another tragic incident was reported from Gorsian Peeran village, where a villager died after consuming expired medicine. The deceased has been identified as Sukhman Preet Singh. His mother, Tara Wati, informed the police that her son fell ill and took an expired medicine, which proved fatal. Subash Chandar, a police official, stated that the body was handed over to the family after a post-mortem examination.
