Thiruvananthapuram: Two men were arrested with approximately 2kg of ganja near the Thampanoor bus stand as part of the city police's anti-drug campaign, Operation Toofan. Police stated that the accused had allegedly smuggled the contraband from Odisha by train and were planning to sell it among college and school students in the city.
Details of the Arrest
The arrested individuals were identified as Aneesh (34) of Kanyakumari and Robin (32) of Thiruvananthapuram. The arrests were made during a joint operation conducted by the Dansaf and Thampanoor police. According to police officials, the duo came under suspicion during intensified surveillance and inspections being carried out under Operation Toofan.
Investigation and Network Probe
Investigators are currently examining whether the accused were part of a larger network involved in sourcing and supplying drugs to youngsters in the district. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway. The City Police Commissioner emphasized that strict inspections are continuing across the city police limits under the operation. He added that strict legal action would be taken against those involved in drug trafficking and related offences.
This operation underscores the police's commitment to curbing drug abuse among the youth and dismantling drug supply chains in the region.
