Two Injured in Firing at Engagement in Palamu, Ex-Mukhiya Held

Daltonganj: Two guests sustained injuries in an alleged celebratory firing incident during an engagement ceremony at Bhagat Tendua village, approximately 90 kilometers from Daltonganj town in Palamu district, on Friday night. Police on Saturday confirmed the arrest of former mukhiya Saroj Mehta, who fired from his licensed weapon.

According to police, one victim suffered a leg injury, while another guest had a bullet graze his back. The incident occurred at the residence of farmer Rahul Paswan, where the engagement was being held.

Officer-in-charge of Harihurganj police station, Deobrat Poddar, stated: “Guest Arvind Mishra, aged around 50, was injured in his leg. The other guest had a bullet graze past his back. Both are out of danger.”

Mishra was initially taken to the community health centre at Harihurganj, from where he was referred to a higher medical facility in Aurangabad, Bihar, about 25 kilometers away.

Poddar added, “We have arrested the former mukhiya, who was also attending the event. His two licensed weapons — a revolver and a rifle — have been seized. We will recommend cancellation of his arms license on charges of misuse.”

Authorities are investigating the incident further, emphasizing the dangers of celebratory firing. The injured are reported to be stable and recovering.
