Two Killed as Speeding Truck Overturns on Ambala Highway, Causes Major Traffic Disruption

A tragic road accident in Ambala district resulted in the deaths of two individuals on Sunday, when a heavily loaded truck overturned, crushing a motorcyclist and a three-wheeler driver beneath it. The incident occurred at a bridge in the Shahpur area, leading to significant traffic congestion on the busy National Highway-44.

Details of the Fatal Collision

According to police reports from the Parao police station, the accident involved a chemical-laden truck that was speeding along the highway. In an attempt to avoid a car that suddenly appeared in its path, the truck driver lost control, first ramming into a passing motorcycle and then a three-wheeler. The impact caused the truck to overturn, landing on a car ahead. Tragically, both the bike rider and the auto driver were trapped under the overturned vehicle and died instantly at the scene.

The four occupants of the car had a miraculous escape, emerging unharmed despite their vehicle sustaining serious damage. One of the survivors, a BSNL employee from Kurukshetra, recounted the harrowing experience: "I was driving to work in Ambala Cantonment when the speeding truck hit us from behind. It first collided with a bike and an auto, then struck our car before flipping over. We are all BSNL employees and feel incredibly lucky to have survived without injuries."

Police Response and Investigation

Parao Station House Officer Dharamveer stated that the police were alerted about the accident at approximately 10 a.m. A team promptly arrived at the location to manage the situation. The bodies of the deceased were taken into custody and sent for post-mortem examination as part of the ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash.

"The matter is being thoroughly investigated to determine the exact sequence of events and any potential negligence," SHO Dharamveer emphasized, confirming that two fatalities were recorded in the incident.

Major Traffic Snarl and Aftermath

The accident triggered a extensive traffic jam stretching for several kilometers on the New Delhi-Ambala highway, commonly known as NH-44. Hundreds of vehicles were stranded, causing considerable inconvenience to commuters and travelers. Normal traffic flow was restored only after the damaged vehicles, including the overturned truck, were cleared from the roadway.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns about road safety on one of North India's key arterial routes, underscoring the devastating consequences of speeding and heavy vehicle mishaps.
