Palakkad: Two persons, including a pickup truck driver and a delivery van driver, were killed in separate road accidents reported from different parts of Palakkad.
First Incident: Pickup Truck Driver Killed in Kanjikode
In the first incident, a pickup truck driver was killed after being hit by another truck while changing a punctured tyre on the roadside at Kanjikode on Friday morning. The deceased was identified as Jayalal Soman, a native of Chempu in Kottayam.
Police said the pickup vehicle was travelling from Palakkad towards Walayar when it developed a tyre puncture. Jayalal and a co-driver had stopped by the roadside and were replacing the damaged tyre when a truck coming from behind rammed into them. Jayalal sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the Palakkad district hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The co-driver was injured in the accident and is undergoing treatment.
Second Incident: Delivery Van Driver Dies in Motorcycle Accident
In a separate incident, 28-year-old Shiyas, an e-commerce delivery van driver from Thenkurussi near Kuzhalmannam, died after sustaining injuries in a motorcycle accident while returning home from work late on Wednesday night.
Police suspect the accident occurred around midnight, but the injured man remained unnoticed by the roadside for nearly six hours before being spotted by morning walkers. He was initially taken to the district hospital and later shifted to a private hospital, where he died during treatment. Investigators suspect Shiyas may have lost control of the motorcycle after an animal crossed the road unexpectedly.
