In two separate incidents in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, two men have been arrested for allegedly molesting women train passengers, according to police officials.
Incident at Andheri Station
A 32-year-old man, identified as Ishaan Doshi, was arrested by the Government Railway Police (GRP) on Thursday morning for molesting a 22-year-old woman at Andheri railway station. The accused, who works at a medical store, allegedly touched the woman inappropriately while she was using the staircase to reach the foot of the overbridge on platform number 7.
The victim, who was on her way to work, raised an alarm. Fellow passengers rushed to her aid, chased the suspect, and caught him before handing him over to the GRP. Doshi was taken to the Andheri GRP chowky and placed in custody.
Incident on a Kalyan-Bound Local Train
In another incident, the GRP arrested a 30-year-old man on Friday for allegedly molesting a 20-year-old woman aboard a Kalyan-bound local train. The incident occurred during the late morning hours.
According to police officials, the woman was traveling on a Kalyan-bound local train at around 11:20 am when the accused approached her, flashed her, and then touched her inappropriately from behind. Despite the distressing nature of the encounter, the victim displayed immense courage by immediately raising an alarm and alerting authorities as soon as she arrived at the station.
Following a detailed statement from the victim, the Kalyan GRP acted swiftly and managed to apprehend the perpetrator shortly after the incident was reported. The man has been booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including those pertaining to assault or use of criminal force with intent to outrage a woman's modesty, sexual harassment, and acts intended to insult a woman's modesty, said a police officer.
Senior officials reiterated that the safety of female commuters remains their absolute top priority, and a thorough investigation is currently underway in both cases.
