A tragic road accident in Jalgaon district claimed the lives of four family members, including two children, on Friday afternoon. The incident occurred near Varangaon when a speeding SUV, allegedly being driven on the wrong side, collided head-on with their motorcycle, according to police reports.
Details of the Accident
The victims were identified as Jai Shankar Kale (19), his sister Aishwarya Bhosle (30), her son Vighnesh Chavan (14), and one-year-old Monalisa Bhosle. All four were declared dead upon arrival at the Jalgaon district government hospital, where relatives had rushed them after the crash.
The collision took place on the Varangaon-Muktainagar road. Police said the SUV came from the opposite direction and veered into the wrong lane, striking the motorcycle head-on. Eyewitnesses described the impact as severe, leaving the victims critically injured at the scene. Local residents promptly alerted the families and assisted in transporting the injured to the hospital.
Legal Action Taken
Jalgaon Superintendent of Police Shrikant Dhivare confirmed that the SUV driver has been arrested. A suo motu case has been registered against him under section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The penalty under this section includes up to 10 years of imprisonment and a fine.
Assistant Inspector Amitkumar Bagul of the Varangaon police station provided further details: the family originally hailed from Malkapur in Buldhana district and had moved to Varangaon two to three months ago for work. On Friday afternoon, they were traveling together when the SUV knocked them down.
Community Response
The local community expressed shock and grief over the incident. The bodies were taken to the hospital by relatives, where they were officially pronounced dead. Police investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances leading to the crash.
