Kanpur: In a significant breakthrough in the kidney transplant scandal, police have arrested two more accused from a gang involved in the illegal buying, selling, and transplanting of kidneys. The arrested individuals include Saifuddin, an OT technician and resident of Bahraich, and Akhilesh Tiwari, a resident of Chakeri.
Details of the Arrest
According to police sources, Saifuddin confessed to facilitating four kidney transplants in Kanpur. For each transplant, he and Akhilesh Tiwari were paid Rs 50,000 each by Rohit, a key accused who is currently lodged in jail. The arrests bring the total number of accused sent to jail in this scandal to 13.
Modus Operandi
The gang operated a network that sourced donors and recipients, conducted illegal transplants, and collected hefty sums of money. The involvement of an OT technician highlights the depth of the conspiracy within medical facilities.
Ongoing Investigation
Police are continuing their investigation to identify other members of the gang and any medical professionals who may have been complicit. The arrested individuals are being questioned to uncover the full extent of the operations and any other locations where such transplants may have occurred.
