Two College Students Killed in Borivli East Bike Crash, Second Fatality in 2 Days
Two Mumbai college students die in Borivli East bike crash

Tragedy struck Mumbai's Borivli East area on Monday afternoon as two young college students lost their lives in a devastating road accident. The incident, which occurred on the Sudhir Phadke flyover, marks the second fatal crash involving a motorcycle in North Mumbai within just two days.

Details of the Borivli East Tragedy

The victims have been identified as Jenil Thumar, aged 19, and Mehak Nirman, aged 18. Both were residents of Mira Road and were returning to their homes when the crash happened around 2 pm on Monday. According to police officials, Thumar was riding the motorcycle while Nirman was seated pillion.

Preliminary investigations by the Kasturba Marg police indicate that the sequence of events began when the motorcycle collided with a road divider. The impact of this collision was severe enough to throw both young men off the vehicle. In a horrifying turn of events, they fell onto the opposite lane of traffic, where they were subsequently run over by another vehicle.

Police Investigation and Aftermath

Emergency services rushed the critically injured students to Bhagwati Hospital. Unfortunately, doctors at the hospital pronounced both of them dead upon arrival. The police have informed the grieving families of both victims. A post-mortem examination will be conducted as part of the standard procedure.

Authorities are still probing the exact cause of the initial collision with the divider. The police official stated, "From what we have learnt so far, Thumar's motorcycle struck against a divider. The impact caused both of them to fall off the motorcycle. They landed on the opposite bound and were run over by another vehicle."

A Second Fatal Crash in Two Days

This heartbreaking incident follows another fatal road accident in the same region just a day earlier. In the early hours of Sunday, two men on a motorcycle, Zahir Amlani (28) and Irshad Hussain, were killed on the Western Express Highway at Dahisar East.

In that case, the duo was also returning to their Mira Road residences around 1:40 am when a truck ran them over. The truck driver fled the scene but was later tracked down to Gujarat. Police found conclusive evidence in the form of bloodstains on the truck's tyres.

The arrested driver, Salman Khan, a native of Uttar Pradesh, claimed to have heard a sound upon contact with the motorcycle but was unaware that he had caused fatalities. He has been taken into custody.

These back-to-back tragedies have highlighted serious road safety concerns in North Mumbai, snuffing out four young lives within 48 hours and leaving families and the community in mourning.
