Two Women Arrested for Fake Robbery in Amroha

Bijnor: Two women have been arrested in Amroha for allegedly staging a fake robbery to cover up a theft of jewellery and cash worth nearly Rs 20 lakh, police said on Sunday.

SP Lakhan Singh Yadav said Kavita Devi, a resident of Pushkar Nagar, lodged a complaint on June 11 alleging that unidentified men had stolen gold and silver ornaments along with Rs 1 lakh in cash from her house. A case was registered at Amroha Dehat police station under BNS section 305 (theft committed in a dwelling house).

Investigations revealed that tenant Durga, facing financial difficulties, conspired with her husband Rohtash to steal the valuables. She was aware of where the keys to the room and almirah were kept and took away jewellery and Rs 91,000 in cash while the house owner was away. To mislead police, Durga allegedly ransacked household items and claimed an armed man had threatened her son before robbing the house. She later hid the stolen property with her acquaintance, Kanta Devi.
