In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, two young men were apprehended by Sadar police in Palamu district on Monday while allegedly possessing approximately 21 grams of brown sugar. The accused have been identified as Chintu Kumar (23) and Atul Ranjan Singh (25), both residents whose lives took a drastic turn following their arrest.

The Police Operation and Interception

According to Officer in-charge Lalji of Sadar police station, the successful operation was the result of a specific tip-off received by the police department. "The two accused were traveling on a motorcycle from Parwa towards Daltonganj when our police team intercepted them near Singra village on NH-39," stated Lalji.

The officer revealed that the suspects attempted to evade the police but ultimately failed in their efforts. "They tried to hoodwink the police personnel but were unsuccessful in their deception," he added, highlighting the alertness of the police team during the operation.

Seizures and Legal Proceedings

Following the interception and subsequent search, police recovered not only the 21 grams of brown sugar but also made additional seizures including:

  • The motorcycle used by the accused
  • A mobile phone
  • Cash amounting to Rs 2,660

On Tuesday, both accused were remanded to judicial custody under relevant sections of the NDPS Act (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act), marking a serious legal development in the case. The judicial custody decision underscores the gravity of the offense and the strict approach authorities are taking against drug-related crimes in the region.
