Tragic Bus-Motorcycle Collision Claims Two Young Lives on Trichy-Namakkal Highway
A devastating road accident near Thottiyam on the Trichy-Namakkal National Highway has resulted in the untimely deaths of two young individuals. The incident occurred on Monday when a private engineering college bus, allegedly driven in a rash and negligent manner, collided head-on with a motorcycle carrying the victims.
Details of the Fatal Incident
The collision took place as the motorcycle was passing by a temple in Manamedu village. According to police sources, the duo was en route to attend a temple festival in Manamedu when the tragedy struck. The bus, which was transporting students at the time, was traveling in the opposite direction when it crashed into the motorcycle.
The victims have been identified as:
- D Hariprasath, 19 - An engineering student hailing from Thottiyam
- P Lingeshwaran, 24 - A daily wager from Sevanthipatti in Namakkal district
Witnesses reported that Lingeshwaran was operating the motorcycle while Hariprasath occupied the pillion seat at the time of the collision.
Immediate Aftermath and Medical Response
The impact of the collision proved catastrophic. Hariprasath suffered the immediate loss of his right leg in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. Lingeshwaran sustained severe, life-threatening injuries and was urgently transported to Musiri Government Hospital for emergency medical treatment.
Despite receiving prompt medical attention, Lingeshwaran succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, marking the second fatality from this tragic incident.
Police Investigation and Legal Action
Thottiyam police swiftly responded to the accident scene, where they recovered Hariprasath's body and initiated preliminary investigations. The authorities identified the bus driver as P Saravanan, 55, and immediately seized the involved vehicle as part of their evidence collection process.
Later that evening, based on a formal complaint filed by Hariprasath's father, P Dhanabal, the Thottiyam police station registered a case against the driver. Saravanan has been officially booked under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertain specifically to rash driving and causing death by negligence.
Current Status and Ongoing Procedures
Following standard protocol, the bodies of both victims were subjected to autopsy procedures at the hospital. After completion of the post-mortem examinations, the remains were respectfully handed over to their respective families for final rites and mourning ceremonies.
