A shocking incident has come to light in Udaipur where the half-charred body of a traffic police officer was discovered inside his residence. The grim discovery was made on Tuesday under the jurisdiction of the Savina police station, sending waves of distress through the local community.
Discovery of the Tragedy
The deceased has been identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Rakesh Meena, aged 47, who was posted in the Bhiliya Phanda area. According to police reports, the sequence of events began when Meena's wife, who was away, grew concerned after being unable to reach him. She had tried calling him several times on Monday night, but he did not answer any of the calls. Her attempts to contact him again on Tuesday morning also went unanswered.
Worried by the persistent silence, she requested a neighbour to visit their house and check on her husband. The neighbour went to the location and knocked on the door for a considerable time, but received no response. It was then that the neighbour detected a strong smell of smoke emanating from the house, prompting immediate alarm.
Police Break In, Find Burnt Body
Upon being informed, police personnel rushed to the scene. They forced entry into the house and made a tragic discovery. The body of ASI Rakesh Meena was found on a bed in a severely burnt condition. Station Officer Bhawarlal provided crucial context, stating that Meena was alone at home at the time. His wife and children had travelled to their ancestral village in Kotputli.
The officer confirmed that the fire had broken out in the very room where Meena was lying. The bed was completely gutted in the blaze. In the initial phase of the investigation, the police have not been able to ascertain the exact cause of the fire. The preliminary theory suggests the fire may have started on the bed itself, and the ASI succumbed after getting caught in the flames.
History of Absence and Ongoing Probe
Adding another layer to the case, Udaipur Traffic Deputy Superintendent of Police Ashok Anjana revealed that ASI Rakesh Meena had been absent from his duty since December 21. The DSP further noted that Meena had a history of being absent from work on several previous occasions as well. This information is likely to form a part of the broader investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
The body was sent for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. Following the necessary procedures, the remains were handed over to the grieving family members. The police continue to investigate the incident from all possible angles to determine whether it was a tragic accident or if foul play was involved.
