Udaipur Police Crack Major Jewellery Heist, Arrest Three Accused

In a significant breakthrough, Udaipur police on Monday arrested three individuals implicated in a high-value jewellery theft involving 100 kilograms of silver and 200 grams of gold, collectively valued at approximately Rs 1.80 crore. The arrests were made from the Kurabar police station area in Udaipur, with authorities successfully recovering 30 kilograms of the stolen silver from the apprehended suspects.

Elaborate Criminal Modus Operandi Unveiled

Udaipur Superintendent of Police Amrita Duhan disclosed that seven specialized teams were mobilized under the direct supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police Gopal Chandel to investigate the case. The arrested accused have been identified as Shiva, also known as Shivlal Kanjar, Kalulal Kanjar, and Mahendra Kanjar, all hailing from Vijaypur in Chittorgarh district.

The police investigation revealed a meticulously planned criminal operation. The accused would travel to various towns and villages on motorcycles during nighttime hours. To conceal their identities, they adopted the disguise of women's attire while conducting reconnaissance and executing their crimes. Notably, they abstained from carrying mobile phones to avoid digital tracking, instead relying on a unique communication method: using bird sounds as code words to coordinate their activities.

Targeted Theft and Criminal Histories

The thieves specifically targeted closed and deserted residences and commercial establishments, often armed with sharp-edged weapons during their operations. Their criminal records are extensive: Shiva has five prior cases of theft and housebreaking registered against him, Kalulal faces eight such cases, and Mahendra has a staggering 16 cases on his record, indicating a pattern of habitual offending.

During police interrogation, it emerged that a total of six individuals collaborated in the heist. While three have been apprehended, the search for the remaining accomplices—identified as Arjun, Ramchandra, and Kundan—continues actively. The stolen jewellery beyond the recovered 30kg silver remains unaccounted for, with recovery efforts ongoing.

Details of the March 15 Theft Incident

The theft occurred on March 15 at Mohit Jewellers, located in Sadar Bazaar within the Kurabar area. The perpetrators managed to steal the substantial quantity of silver and gold, transporting the loot in sacks. In an attempt to erase evidence, they destroyed the shop's CCTV camera and removed the digital video recorder (DVR).

However, critical evidence was captured by a CCTV camera from another shop along the bazaar route, which recorded masked individuals carrying sharp-edged weapons. This footage proved instrumental in identifying and subsequently apprehending the suspects. The jeweller's family resides in Udaipur and commutes to the shop, while tenants on the first floor had been absent since March 11, providing the criminals with an opportune moment to execute the theft.

The police investigation remains vigorous as teams work to locate the absconding accomplices and recover the outstanding stolen valuables, underscoring a determined effort to bring full resolution to this major criminal case.
