Udupi Police Thwart Illegal Cattle Transport Operation, Apprehend Three Suspects

In a decisive night-time operation, the Amasebail police in Udupi district successfully intercepted an illegal cattle transportation attempt, leading to the arrest of three individuals and the rescue of two bulls. The incident unfolded during a routine patrol, highlighting the vigilance of local law enforcement in enforcing animal protection laws.

Night Patrol Leads to Interception and Inspection

According to police reports, PSI Ashok Kumar was conducting night rounds within the station limits when personnel stationed at the Hosangadi check post acted on a tip-off. At approximately 5 AM on Sunday, they intercepted a pick-up vehicle approaching from the Hulikal Ghat side. Upon inspection, officers discovered two bulls crammed inside the vehicle, in conditions that raised immediate concerns about animal welfare.

During questioning, the occupants of the vehicle reportedly confessed that the cattle were being transported for slaughter, violating state regulations. The estimated value of the rescued cattle is around Rs 1 lakh, while the seized vehicle is valued at approximately Rs 4 lakh, bringing the total seized assets to Rs 5 lakh.

Escort Vehicle Suspected, Additional Arrest Made

Police grew suspicious of a white car that was following the pick-up vehicle closely. Suspecting it to be an escort vehicle aiding the illegal transport, officers promptly stopped it. In the ensuing chaos, the driver and another occupant fled the scene, but one person in the car was apprehended. This led to a total of three arrests in connection with the case.

The arrested individuals have been identified as:

  • Mustaq Hussain Sab Nadaf, aged 29, from Ramdurg, Belagavi district
  • Saleem Hussain Sab Nadaf, aged 33, from Ramdurg, Belagavi district
  • Nadeem Abdul Khader, aged 34, currently residing in Byndoor taluk

All three accused have been produced before the court, and legal proceedings are underway.

Legal Charges and Broader Implications

A case has been registered at the Amasebail police station under multiple sections, reflecting the seriousness of the offense:

  1. Sections 4, 5, 7, and 12 of the Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act, 2020
  2. Section 11(1)(d) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act
  3. Section 66(1) read with 192(A) of the Motor Vehicles Act

This incident underscores the ongoing efforts by Karnataka authorities to combat illegal cattle slaughter and transportation, which are often linked to broader issues of animal cruelty and regulatory violations. The successful operation not only prevented potential harm to the animals but also serves as a deterrent to similar activities in the region.

Local police have emphasized their commitment to continuous patrols and strict enforcement of laws protecting cattle, urging the public to report any suspicious activities. The case remains under investigation as authorities pursue the individuals who fled the scene.
