Udupi: Rs 60 Lakh Theft in Hebri Burglary

Udupi: A major burglary has been reported from the Hebri Police station limits, where unidentified thieves allegedly broke into a house and decamped with gold, silver, and other valuables worth nearly Rs 60 lakh. The incident came to light on May 24, when the complainant woke up at around 6:45 am and found the front and rear doors of the house open. Suspicion arose when the cupboard in the hall was found open. Upon checking the first-floor bedroom, it was discovered that the locker of a cupboard had also been broken open.

How the Thieves Gained Entry

Police suspect that the thieves gained entry into the house by tampering with the latch of a rear window. The burglars are believed to have operated during the night, targeting the house while the residents were asleep. The total value of the stolen property has been estimated at Rs 59.9 lakh, which includes gold and silver ornaments, cash, and other valuables.

Police Investigation Underway

Based on the complaint, the Hebri police have registered a case under sections 331(4) and 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). A team of forensic experts has been called to examine the scene for fingerprints and other clues. The police are also scanning CCTV footage from nearby houses and establishments to identify the suspects. Locals have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Further investigations are ongoing.
