In a swift and decisive operation, the Tamalwadi police in Maharashtra's Dharashiv district cracked a chilling murder case within 24 hours, leading to the arrest of the victim's own uncle. The accused allegedly killed his 13-year-old nephew, viewing the boy as an obstacle to his illicit relationship with the child's mother.
A Grisly Discovery and Swift Police Action
The case unfolded on January 5, when the body of the young boy was discovered concealed under grass near the Tamalwadi storage reservoir in Tuljapur taluka. Initially, the police registered an accidental death report under section 194 of the BNSS. However, the circumstances soon raised suspicion.
After the victim was identified and a deeper analysis was conducted, investigators swiftly converted the case into a murder. On January 6, the Tamalwadi police officially registered a murder case under BNS section 103(1) and apprehended the prime suspect: the 35-year-old maternal uncle of the deceased boy.
The Motive: A Secret Affair and a Perceived Threat
According to Dharashiv Superintendent of Police Ritu Khokher-Kalyan, the tragic sequence of events stemmed from a clandestine relationship. Both the accused and his sister-in-law (the victim's mother) worked as farm labourers on agricultural land along the Solapur-Dhule national highway in Tamalwadi Shivar.
The boy had become aware of the illicit relationship between his mother and uncle. "The child started repeatedly sharing information about the relationship with his father. This angered the accused, who began seeing the boy as a major obstacle," SP Ritu Khokher-Kalyan explained. The uncle allegedly perceived the teenager as a threat to the continuation of his secret affair.
The Fateful Day and Method of Murder
Police investigations revealed the chilling details of the crime. On January 1, around noon, the uncle took the boy to the isolated Tamalwadi storage reservoir. He lured the child under the false pretext of installing a pipeline for an electric water pump.
"At the reservoir, the accused attacked the boy with an axe, killing him on the spot. He then dumped the body under the grass near the reservoir and fled," stated the Superintendent of Police. The brutal attack was premeditated and executed in a secluded location.
The case was solved rapidly through a combination of technical intelligence and information gathered from confidential sources. Assistant Inspector Gokul Thakur, the in-charge of the area police station, credited this multi-pronged approach for the quick breakthrough. The arrest within a day of filing the formal murder case highlights the effective response of the Dharashiv police in addressing this heinous crime.
