Ferozepur: In a brazen act of violence, two unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants allegedly shot dead a shopkeeper in Makhu town of Ferozepur district on Monday, triggering panic among traders and residents. The incident led to a complete shutdown in the town as locals protested the killing.
Details of the Incident
The deceased, identified as Gurcharan Singh Gaba, was the owner of a general store located in the main market of Makhu. He was sitting inside his shop when the attackers opened fire, hitting him multiple times before fleeing the scene. Nearby shopkeepers rushed the injured trader to a nearby hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries.
Police Response and Investigation
Upon receiving information, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ferozepur, Bhupinder Singh, along with other senior officers, reached the spot. Police teams have begun scrutinizing CCTV footage from the area and collecting forensic and eyewitness evidence to establish the motive behind the murder.
Speaking to the media, SSP Singh stated that although no clear motive has emerged yet, investigators have gathered crucial leads. "We have obtained important clues and are working on multiple angles. The accused will be identified and arrested shortly," he assured. The SSP added that further investigations are underway, and additional details are expected to emerge in the coming days.
Political Reaction
Condemning the killing, former Congress MLA from Zira, Kulbir Singh Zira, alleged that law and order in the state had deteriorated, allowing criminal elements to operate without fear. He demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits and strict action to restore public confidence.
