The survivor in the high-profile Unnao rape case has made explosive allegations, claiming the investigating officer in her case colluded with the judge to ensure the "other party won." This serious charge emerged shortly after the Delhi High Court granted bail to the convict, expelled BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, and suspended his life sentence.
Survivor Submits Formal Complaint to CBI
On Saturday, the survivor and her mother met with officials from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and formally submitted a complaint detailing their allegations. The victim stated that the investigating officer's actions were aimed at breaking her courage and preventing her from pursuing the case further.
"The complaint is that the investigating officer has wronged me. He colluded with the judge to ensure that the other party won, so that the rape victim would lose, her courage would be broken, and she would not be able to pursue the case further," the survivor was quoted as saying by ANI.
She expressed deep disappointment, adding, "Had the CBI stood with my lawyer, we wouldn't have had to see this day. We would have won, and they would have lost."
CBI Challenges Bail in Supreme Court, Family Expresses Distrust
In a significant move, the CBI has approached the Supreme Court to challenge the Delhi High Court's order that stayed Sengar's life sentence and granted him bail. The High Court's decision has triggered a strong backlash from the survivor's family and opposition parties, leading to escalating demands for the apex court's intervention.
The survivor's mother voiced the family's profound distrust in the process. "If CBI meets us, only then will we trust them. How can we trust them otherwise?" she questioned. She recounted an incident where the Investigating Officer was allegedly talking to Kuldeep Sengar's daughter in court and claimed not to know the victim when asked.
It is crucial to note that while Sengar has been granted bail in the rape case, he will remain in prison. This is because he is currently serving a separate 10-year sentence in another CBI case related to murder.
Background of the Case and Public Outcry
Kuldeep Singh Sengar, a former Uttar Pradesh MLA, was found guilty in the Unnao rape case in December 2019 and sentenced to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 25 lakh.
The Delhi High Court's order suspending his sentence sparked immediate public outrage. On Saturday, Delhi witnessed protests near the Parliament complex, with police detaining several demonstrators. Among those taken into custody were activist Yogita Bhayana and Congress leader Mumtaz Patel, who staged a sit-in against the bail order.
The case continues to be a focal point for discussions on justice, the influence of powerful figures, and the challenges faced by survivors in India's legal system.
