UP Anti-Terrorist Squad Targets Dubai-Based ISIS Handler with Lookout Circular
The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has escalated its crackdown on a recently uncovered ISIS terror module by issuing a lookout circular against Aaqib, an alleged key handler currently operating from Dubai. Authorities believe Aaqib is the mastermind behind the module, which was dismantled by the ATS earlier this month.
Module Busted with Four Arrests in Uttar Pradesh
According to official sources, Aaqib is suspected to be the primary handler for a module led by Saqib, also known as "Devil." This module was busted by the ATS, resulting in the arrests of Saqib, along with Arbaab, Lokesh, and Vikas from various locations across Uttar Pradesh. The individuals were apprehended for allegedly conspiring to carry out anti-national activities under the direction of foreign handlers.
Investigations have revealed that Aaqib, based in Dubai, played a crucial role in connecting Saqib with Pakistani handlers. Following this connection, Saqib allegedly began building a local network, recruiting members and disseminating extremist content to radicalize individuals.
Digital Network Used for Radicalization and Recruitment
The probe has uncovered that Saqib created more than a dozen groups on the messaging platform Telegram to expand the network's reach. These groups were reportedly used to circulate provocative and anti-national videos and posts aimed at radicalizing members. Individuals from Uttar Pradesh and neighboring states were being added to these groups, indicating a widespread recruitment effort.
Officials stated that the accused were being groomed in a structured manner, with instructions and ideological material being disseminated through digital platforms. This strategy involved rapid recruitment and indoctrination, enabling the group to plan coordinated acts across several cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, and locations in Haryana.
ATS Intensifies Efforts to Dismantle Cross-Border Connections
The ATS suspects that the module was working towards executing multiple incidents in a short span of time. Hundreds of individuals are believed to have been linked to these Telegram groups, and the agency is currently verifying their identities and roles to assess the full scope of the network.
The four arrested accused are currently in ATS custody, and intensive interrogation is underway to uncover the complete extent of the network and its cross-border connections. The issuance of a lookout circular against Aaqib is viewed as a significant step to track and prevent his international movement, as law enforcement agencies intensify efforts to dismantle the module and its overseas links.
