Bareilly: The Uttar Pradesh Police have dismantled an illegal gambling operation centered on cockfights in the Bhojipura area of Bareilly. Six individuals were arrested, while several others managed to escape during the raid.
Raids and Arrests
Acting on a confidential tip-off, a police team conducted a raid at a mango orchard near Saidpur Pyarelal village. A group of people had assembled there to place bets on cockfights. The six accused were caught red-handed at the scene. Authorities recovered seven fighting roosters and Rs 2,910 in cash from the location.
Investigation Details
During interrogation, the arrested individuals revealed that a local resident had organized the events and made arrangements for the betting. Based on this information, an FIR has been registered against the accused under the Gambling Act and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
Police Statement
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anurag Arya stated, “We will take action against anyone else in the district who holds cockfights. The police department remains committed to eliminating such illegal operations and offences related to animal cruelty in Bareilly.”
The police have assured that further investigations are underway to identify and apprehend the other individuals involved in the racket.
