UP STF Cracks Down on Interstate Drug Network with Major Ganja Seizure

In a significant operation against narcotics trafficking, the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) has apprehended a member of an interstate drug smuggling network and confiscated a massive quantity of ganja. The seizure, amounting to 7.75 quintals, carries an estimated international market value of around Rs two crore, marking a substantial blow to organized crime in the region.

Dramatic Interception in Lucknow Leads to Arrest

The breakthrough occurred late Wednesday in the Nigohan area of Lucknow, where an STF team, acting on precise intelligence, intercepted a DCM truck suspected of transporting illegal narcotics. The operation was spearheaded by STF Deputy Superintendent of Police Deepak Kumar Singh, who had received information about a truck carrying ganja from Odisha en route to Lucknow via Rae Bareli, with plans to unload the contraband near a railway crossing.

Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered 7.75 quintals of ganja cleverly concealed within a specially modified cavity, highlighting the sophisticated methods employed by the smugglers. Additionally, two mobile phones were seized from the accused, identified as Kaushal Kumar, a resident of Muradpur village in Fatehpur district.

Unraveling a Larger Drug Trafficking Network

During interrogation, Kaushal Kumar provided crucial insights into the operations of a broader drug trafficking network. He revealed that the consignment was part of a larger syndicate allegedly operated by individuals named Samarjit alias Sonu Gupta, Mayank Kumar Gupta, and Syed Dawar Alvi. According to the accused, he had transported similar consignments for this gang on multiple occasions in the past, indicating a well-established and recurring smuggling operation.

Kumar disclosed that he was paid approximately Rs 50,000 for each trip, underscoring the financial incentives driving such illicit activities. This revelation points to the economic underpinnings of the drug trade and the challenges faced by law enforcement in curbing such networks.

Legal Action and Ongoing Investigations

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, reflecting the seriousness of the offense. The STF's successful operation not only led to the arrest of a key player but also disrupted the supply chain of a significant narcotics distribution network.

The seizure of 7.75 quintals of ganja, with its high market value, is expected to have a ripple effect on the drug trade in the region. Authorities are now intensifying their efforts to track down the other alleged operatives mentioned by Kumar, aiming to dismantle the entire network and prevent future smuggling attempts.

This operation highlights the Uttar Pradesh STF's proactive approach in combating drug-related crimes and its commitment to maintaining law and order. The use of intelligence-driven tactics and swift action demonstrates the effectiveness of coordinated efforts in tackling interstate narcotics smuggling, sending a strong message to criminal elements operating in the area.
