The Uttar Pradesh Vigilance Establishment, operating from its Jhansi Sector, executed a successful anti-corruption operation on Thursday, resulting in the arrest of a National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) official. The accused, identified as Jitesh Soni, was caught red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh in Mahoba district.

Details of the Alleged Corruption

Jitesh Soni served as the Family Planning and Logistic Manager under the NRHM in the district. According to vigilance officials, a complainant approached the Jhansi unit with allegations that Soni was demanding a bribe to facilitate his transfer from CHC Panwari to CHC Kabrai. After thoroughly verifying the complaint, a specialized team led by Inspector Jagdish Yadav laid a meticulous trap to catch the official in the act.

The operation culminated with Soni being apprehended while he was accepting the Rs 2 lakh bribe from the complainant. This swift action underscores the vigilance department's commitment to rooting out corruption in public service roles.

Legal Proceedings and Investigation

Following the arrest, a formal case has been registered at the Kotwali police station in Mahoba. The charges fall under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, which deals with public servants taking gratification other than legal remuneration. Officials confirmed that the accused will be produced before the vigilance court in Jhansi for judicial proceedings.
