UPI Transaction Cracks Sensational Pub Attack Case in Vijayawada
In a dramatic breakthrough, a simple UPI transaction has helped police crack the sensational pub attack case in Vijayawada, leading to the arrest of the main accused, who had been evading capture across three states. This case underscores how digital footprints are becoming crucial in modern policing efforts.
Prime Accused Tracked After Weeks of Evasion
Sandeep, the prime accused in the attempted murder of a youth during a violent clash at Animal Pub on MG Road last month, was finally tracked down by Krishna Lanka police after weeks of evasion. Known for his role in the Patamata gang rivalry, Sandeep allegedly attacked Tarun with a knife while intoxicated, sparking a major manhunt that spanned multiple jurisdictions.
Multi-State Hideout and Police Challenges
After the incident, Sandeep went underground, frequently changing mobile phones and locations to avoid detection. He initially hid in Hyderabad, later moved to Goa, and eventually reached Karnataka. Despite examining extensive CCTV footage and questioning several individuals, police struggled to trace his movements due to his constant relocation and use of different communication devices.
Critical Mistake Exposes Accused Through UPI
A critical mistake ultimately exposed Sandeep. While hiding near Ballari, he contacted a friend in Vijayawada using another person's phone and requested money. The friend transferred funds via UPI to that number. Police, who were monitoring financial transactions linked to his associates, flagged this suspicious transfer as it did not align with normal patterns.
Acting swiftly, a special team traced the account holder in Ballari and interrogated him, leading directly to Sandeep's exact location. He was found hiding in an abandoned quarry on the outskirts of the area and was arrested without further incident.Arrest and Judicial Proceedings
Sandeep was brought back to Vijayawada and produced before a court, which remanded him to judicial custody. Police officials emphasized that this case highlights how even minor digital footprints can expose hardened criminals, reinforcing the growing role of technology in modern policing strategies.
This investigation demonstrates the increasing reliance on digital evidence in criminal cases, with UPI transactions providing a trail that traditional methods might have missed. The successful arrest after a multi-state chase serves as a reminder of the persistent efforts by law enforcement to bring offenders to justice, leveraging every available technological tool.
