Vadodara Man Arrested for Allegedly Raping University Student and Filming the Crime

In a shocking incident from Vadodara, a 25-year-old man has been arrested by the Bapod police for allegedly raping a university student, filming the assault, and using the videos to blackmail her. The accused, identified as Akash Singh Thakur, lured the victim to his home under false pretenses, leading to a traumatic ordeal that has sparked outrage in the community.

Details of the Alleged Crime

According to police reports, Thakur, a senior from the same college as the victim, had maintained contact with her through social media. He had repeatedly invited her to his residence in the Ajwa Road area, but she had consistently declined. However, on Thursday night, the woman agreed to visit his house after Thakur offered to let her use his washing machine, as she had been unable to do laundry for several days due to exam preparations.

Police Inspector P U Pastagiya, the investigating officer, stated that after the woman finished washing her clothes, she expressed her desire to leave. Thakur allegedly told her it was too late and that the apartment gate would be locked, suggesting she stay overnight. The victim then sat in the living room, using her phone while waiting for morning.

Assault and Blackmail Threats

Around 2 a.m., Thakur asked the woman to come to his bedroom. When she refused, he forcibly took her inside, where he allegedly raped her and recorded eight videos of the act. He then threatened her, saying she would have to comply with his future demands, and promised to delete one video for each time she visited him, effectively blackmailing her into submission.

On Friday morning, the victim returned to her paying guest accommodation and confided in her friends. Later that afternoon, she filed a formal complaint at the Bapod police station, leading to swift action by the authorities.

Police Investigation and Arrest

The Bapod police acted promptly on the complaint, arresting Akash Singh Thakur. Following a medical examination, he was sent to judicial custody. Investigators have seized his mobile phone and other crucial evidence to build a strong case against him. The police are continuing their probe to ensure justice is served and to prevent such incidents in the future.

This case highlights the vulnerabilities faced by students and the importance of vigilance in social interactions. It also underscores the need for robust legal measures to protect victims and hold perpetrators accountable.
