Varanasi ANTF Busts Drug Racket, Seizes Hydroponic Ganja

Varanasi ANTF Cracks Down on Drug Network, Seizes High-Value Hydroponic Ganja

In a significant operation late on Wednesday, the Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) in Varanasi apprehended two drug peddlers and confiscated a consignment of 145 grams of hydroponic ganja valued at approximately Rs 10.45 lakh. The bust underscores ongoing efforts to combat narcotics trafficking in the historic city, which sees high tourist footfall.

Late-Night Raid Leads to Arrests Near Ravindrapuri

Acting on credible intelligence, a specialized ANTF team conducted a targeted raid at a culvert in the Ravindrapuri area. The operation, led by ACP Bhelupur Gaurav Kumar, resulted in the arrest of two individuals: Aditya Singh, a 26-year-old resident of Gorakhpur, and Vasu Kedia, aged 28, from Bhelupur. The swift action highlights the task force's proactive approach to disrupting drug supply chains.

Seizure Includes Cash and Mobile Phones

Beyond the substantial haul of hydroponic ganja, authorities recovered Rs 3,300 in cash and two mobile phones from the suspects. These items are believed to be instrumental in their illicit activities, facilitating communication and transactions within the drug network. The seizure marks a critical blow to local peddling operations.

Interrogation Reveals Modus Operandi Targeting Tourists

During subsequent interrogation, the arrested duo confessed to their roles in the drug trade. Aditya Singh was identified as the primary supplier, sourcing the hydroponic ganja from Gorakhpur. After packaging the narcotics, he collaborated with Vasu Kedia to distribute the drugs to addicts in Varanasi. Exploiting the bustling environment, they strategically operated near the city's ghats, capitalizing on the dense crowds of tourists and youth to evade detection.

This case sheds light on the challenges of narcotics enforcement in popular tourist destinations, where high footfall can provide cover for illegal activities. The ANTF's successful intervention is expected to deter similar operations and enhance public safety in Varanasi.
