Varanasi Hotel Tragedy: Andhra Siblings Found Dead in Apparent Suicide Pact
VARANASI: A grim discovery sent shockwaves through the Pared Kothi area under Sigra police station on Tuesday, as police uncovered the bodies of a man and a woman inside a hotel room. The incident, which unfolded near the Roadways bus stand, has left authorities piecing together a tragic puzzle with no clear motive yet established.
Deceased Identified as Brother and Sister from Secunderabad
Following a thorough inspection of the scene, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for Kashi Zone, Gaurav Banshwal, confirmed the identities of the deceased. The victims were identified as Subba, aged 42, and Dhanalakshmi, aged 38, both natives of Secunderabad in Andhra Pradesh. "The father's name mentioned in their identity documents recovered from the hotel room was the same, suggesting that they were brother and sister," stated DCP Banshwal, highlighting a key detail from the investigation.
Evidence Points Towards Suicide, No Note Found
The condition of the bodies and the discovery of pills near them strongly indicated that the duo died by suicide. "Police recovered a packet of suspected poison from a table inside the room, and the woman was found with froth at her mouth," added the DCP. However, the absence of a suicide note has complicated efforts to ascertain the reasons behind this drastic step. Forensic experts were promptly engaged to collect evidence, while police are attempting to contact the family of the deceased for further insights.
Hotel Stay and Final Hours
Hotel manager Asif provided a timeline of events, revealing that the siblings checked into room-2005 on February 8. "The duo told hotel staff that they had come to Varanasi for worship and sightseeing," he recounted. Their behavior appeared normal throughout their stay; they had dinner on Monday night and were scheduled to check out on Tuesday morning. Concerns arose when they failed to open the door or respond to repeated calls by around noon, prompting hotel staff to alert the police.
Upon arrival, police used a duplicate key to open the door and found both individuals lying on the floor. The investigation also uncovered that the identity documents submitted during hotel registration were approximately 12 years old, as the siblings had previously lived at that address as tenants. Additional documents, including Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, and a driving licence, were recovered from the room, aiding in the identification process.
Ongoing Investigation and Community Impact
As the investigation continues, authorities are focusing on several key aspects:
- Forensic analysis of the pills and suspected poison to determine the exact cause of death.
- Efforts to locate and interview family members to understand potential motives or personal struggles.
- Review of the siblings' recent activities and communications to trace their final days.
This tragic incident has cast a pall over the local community in Varanasi, raising questions about mental health and the pressures that may lead to such extreme actions. Police remain committed to uncovering the full story behind this heartbreaking case, as they work to provide closure for the grieving family and ensure public safety.
