Tragic House Collapse in Varanasi Claims Two Lives, Leaves Two Critically Injured

A devastating incident unfolded in Varanasi on Tuesday morning when a dilapidated house collapsed following a powerful explosion, resulting in the deaths of two siblings and serious injuries to two other family members. The tragedy occurred in the Lahartara area around 8 am, sending shockwaves through the neighborhood.

Fatalities and Injuries in the Blast

The deceased have been identified as Om Kumar Chaudhary, aged 30, and his sister Preeti, aged 28. Their brother, Aman Kumar Chaudhary (31), and mother, Girija Devi (60), sustained serious injuries and were rushed to a hospital for emergency treatment. According to officials, Om and Preeti succumbed to their injuries during treatment at the trauma centre of Banaras Hindu University (BHU).

The condition of Girija Devi and Aman is currently reported as stable, providing a glimmer of hope amidst the tragedy. All four victims were trapped under the debris of their collapsed home, which was reduced to rubble by the force of the explosion.

Massive Rescue Operation and Investigation

Police from the Manduadih station, along with local residents, swiftly responded to the scene, rescuing the trapped individuals. The rescue efforts were overseen by senior police officers, who coordinated with multiple agencies including the forensic department, bomb disposal squad, and firefighters.

Once it was confirmed that no one else was trapped under the debris, a JCB machine was deployed to clear the rubble. The explosion was so intense that it caused cracks in the walls of nearby houses, highlighting the severity of the blast.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Shivhari Meena stated that an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the explosion. Interestingly, both LPG cylinders at the site were found intact, raising questions about what triggered the blast. Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Police Varuna Neetu Kadian confirmed that authorities are examining all possible angles to uncover the truth behind this tragic event.

The explosion around 8 am caused widespread panic in the Lahartara area. Neighbors rushed out of their homes to find a massive cloud of dust and the Chaudhary family's house completely demolished. The suddenness and force of the blast left the community in a state of shock and mourning.
