Varanasi police cracked a murder case within 24 hours on Tuesday, arresting four individuals in connection with the shooting death of a 60-year-old man. The victim, Rajan, was killed on Monday in the Chowk police station area.
Arrests and Roles
The arrested suspects have been identified as Vishal Bharatiya, Vikas Vishwakarma, Sujit Valmiki, and Krishna Valmiki. According to police, Bharatiya was the main conspirator, while Vishwakarma conducted reconnaissance prior to the murder. Sujit and Krishna Valmiki are accused of shooting Rajan dead. Following the incident, all four fled the scene.
Motive Behind the Murder
Police investigations revealed that the murder was not driven by old enmity or financial disputes, but rather by suspicion of black magic. The main accused, Vishal Bharatiya, believed that his distant relative Rajan practiced black magic and sorcery, which he thought was responsible for continuous deaths in his family. Bharatiya was convinced that eliminating Rajan would end the crisis plaguing his family, leading him to plan the murder with his associates.
Swift Police Action
ACP Atul Anjan Tripathi stated that police obtained vital clues within six hours of the murder. Leveraging evidence and the local intelligence network, law enforcement arrested all four accused within just 24 hours. During interrogation, Bharatiya initially claimed that the spirit of his dead father had possessed him and motivated the murder. However, he later admitted to fabricating this story to avoid punishment.
Recovery of Weapon
Police recovered the illegal weapon used in the murder from the possession of the accused. All four arrested individuals are friends, with two of them residing in the Manduadih area.
