In a major crackdown on exam malpractice, Rajatalab police in Varanasi arrested a candidate who attempted to take the police constable recruitment examination (2025) by impersonating his cousin. The accused was found carrying forged Aadhaar and admit card. The registered candidate was also taken into custody.
Incident Details
On Tuesday, during the first shift of the Direct Recruitment-2025 examination for the posts of constable civil police, held at Dr Rammanohar Lohia Postgraduate College, Bhairavtalab, under Rajatalab police station, Raj Kumar Sah was caught attempting to appear in place of the registered candidate, Deepak Kumar Jyeshthvant, who is his cousin. The impersonation was detected when discrepancies were repeatedly observed during biometric verification, iris scan, and face matching.
Legal Action
Based on a written complaint from the centre administrator, Prof Randhir Singh, a case was registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the UP Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act-2024. The specific charges include Sections 319(2), 318(4), 338, 336(3), 340(2) of BNS and Sections 7/13(3) and 8/13(5) of the UP Act.
Arrest and Recovery
A police team led by Sub-Inspector Amarjeet Kumar of Sarnath police station arrested Raj Kumar Sah (31) and Deepak Kumar Jyeshthvant (30), both residents of Ballia district. During the operation, police recovered a forged Aadhaar card along with original documents including the original Aadhaar card, PAN card, photocopy of the admit card, OMR answer sheet (second copy), and the question booklet. Both cousins were sent to jail after legal proceedings.
Confessions
During interrogation, Raj Kumar Sah admitted that he had attempted to take the exam in place of his cousin by preparing a forged Aadhaar card. He further revealed that the actual candidate, Deepak Kumar Jyeshthvant, was present outside the examination centre. Following this information, Deepak Kumar was also taken into custody. Deepak Kumar confessed that he had sent Raj Kumar Sah to take the exam on his behalf and that forged documents had been prepared in connection with the application.
