In a significant crackdown on criminal activities, Varanasi police successfully arrested two notorious criminals in two separate encounters over the weekend. Both suspects suffered bullet injuries to their legs during the operations and were subsequently taken to hospital for treatment.

First Encounter: Jahanaganj Police Operation

The first incident occurred when Jahanaganj police received credible intelligence about the presence of criminals who were involved in a house robbery near PGI Chakrapanpur on the night of April 14. According to Azamgarh ASP (City) Madhuvan Kumar Singh, the criminals were reportedly planning to target another house in the same area.

Police immediately swung into action and cordoned off the Gambhirvan area. When officers attempted to stop a suspicious youth carrying a bag through the area, the individual opened fire on the police team and attempted to flee the scene.

During retaliatory firing by the police, the suspect sustained a bullet injury to his leg and was apprehended. He has been identified as Sanjay Bheel, also known as Sanju, a 22-year-old resident of Dhar, Madhya Pradesh.

Following his arrest, police recovered substantial evidence including:

  • A country-made pistol
  • Multiple cartridges
  • Gold ingots weighing 34 grams
  • Four pairs of anklets
  • Ten coins
  • Cash amounting to Rs 40,000

Second Encounter: Phulpur Police Operation

In a separate incident early Sunday morning, Phulpur police conducted another successful operation. Acting on specific inputs regarding the movement of an accused involved in an attempt to murder case, police cordoned off the Bhoramau culvert area.

When officers attempted to intercept the suspect as he was passing through the culvert, he opened fire on the police team. During the ensuing exchange of fire, the suspect suffered a bullet injury to his leg.

The apprehended individual has been identified as Kesari Chauhan. Police recovered significant evidence from his possession including:

  • A country-made pistol
  • Cartridges
  • A motorcycle
  • A mobile phone
  • An undisclosed amount of cash

Both suspects received immediate medical attention after their apprehension. Police officials confirmed that both operations were conducted based on specific intelligence and followed proper protocols.
