Varanasi: Three Caught Selling Liquor Illegally Near Station

In a late-night operation on Friday, the Sigra police apprehended three employees of a model wine shop for illegally selling liquor near the Varanasi Junction (Cantt railway station). The arrests were made after the shop had officially closed for the day. A substantial stock of alcoholic beverages was seized during the raid.

Details of the Raid

Station in-charge Shivanand Mishra stated that the police raided the shop located in Vijayanagram Market, opposite the Varanasi Cantt Railway Station. The action was taken following a tip-off that the accused were secretly selling liquor in the vicinity of the station after shutting down their outlet.

During the raid, law enforcement officers recovered a large quantity of alcohol, including 35 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), 16 bottles of country liquor, and 41 cans of beer. The total haul was significant in volume.

Modus Operandi

According to the police, the accused were employees of the same wine shop. Their method involved stocking liquor bottles at alternative locations before closing the shop. Subsequently, they would sell these bottles at inflated prices after the shop had officially closed, exploiting the demand for alcohol during late hours.

A case has been registered against the trio under relevant sections of the Excise Act. The authorities are investigating further to determine if any other individuals are involved in this illegal operation.
