The Punjab vigilance bureau (VB) on Wednesday registered a case against a kanungo posted in the revenue office at Golewala village in Faridkot for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000.
Complaint Details
A bureau official stated that a resident of Bagthala village in Faridkot accused the revenue official, Varinder Singh, of demanding a bribe of Rs 80,000 to facilitate the possession of his land. The complaint was lodged through the chief minister's anti-corruption helpline, alleging that the kanungo had demanded the bribe despite a court order directing the revenue department to hand over possession of the land to the complainant.
Evidence and Legal Action
The complainant claimed that he had paid Rs 40,000 as the first instalment of the bribe. He also submitted a video recording of the transaction as evidence to the bureau. Based on this, a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the vigilance bureau's police station in Ferozepur.
