Vijayan files complaint over defamatory remarks by Major Ravi

Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition leader Pinarayi Vijayan has lodged a complaint with home minister Ramesh Chennithala and the state police chief seeking an investigation into what he described as factually incorrect and defamatory remarks made by BJP functionary Major Ravi and the subsequent social media campaign based on those remarks.

According to a statement issued by the opposition leader’s office, the complaint relates to comments made by Ravi regarding Vijayan’s visit to pay last respects to late actor Innocent. Ravi had allegedly claimed that Vijayan, who was the chief minister then, arrived to pay homage accompanied by 56 vehicles, 560 police personnel and 10 fire engines.

The complaint stated that following the remarks, several social media handles circulated fabricated visuals and posts related to the incident. Links to the original footage from the day of the event as well as links to the allegedly manipulated posts circulated on social media have been submitted along with the complaint.
