Vijayawada Pub Brawl Escalates to Attempted Murder, Victim Critically Injured

A violent altercation at a popular pub in Vijayawada has resulted in a serious attempted murder case, with a young man sustaining critical injuries. The incident, which occurred at Animal Club on MG Road (Bandar Road), has sparked widespread concern over alcohol-related violence and the operation of late-night establishments in the city.

Details of the Incident

According to police reports, the victim, identified as Tarun, a resident of Mogalrajapuram, had recently returned from the United Kingdom after completing his engineering studies. He was pursuing software courses in Hyderabad and had come to Vijayawada to celebrate Holi with friends. On the night of March 7, Tarun visited the pub with his friends, where they consumed alcohol.

An initial argument broke out between two groups inside the pub, but it was temporarily diffused. However, tensions flared again with the arrival of Sandeep, an individual known to police due to previous criminal cases. The groups reconvened at the same pub, continuing to drink into the early hours of March 8.

Violent Escalation and Injuries

Around 2 a.m., a heated dispute erupted and quickly turned violent. In a fit of rage, Sandeep allegedly attacked Tarun with a knife, stabbing him in the head. When Sandeep attempted to stab him again in the abdomen, Tarun reportedly tried to defend himself, resulting in severe cuts to his fingers. Tarun sustained serious head injuries and was immediately rushed to a private hospital for emergency treatment.

The Krishnalanka police have registered a case and launched a thorough investigation into the matter. Officials revealed that Sandeep has multiple criminal cases registered against him, including one at Suryaraopet Police Station and three at Patamata Police Station. Additionally, a suspect sheet is maintained at Machavaram Police Station, highlighting his history with law enforcement.

Broader Concerns and Investigations

This incident has brought to light significant issues regarding late-night pub operations in Vijayawada. Sources allege that several pubs in the city operate until 2 a.m., with the Andhra Pradesh excise department reportedly turning a blind eye to violations of permitted timings. Police officials emphasized that such incidents underscore the growing risk of alcohol-fuelled violence linked to the city's late-night pub culture.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the full circumstances surrounding the brawl and to ensure accountability for the violations. The case has raised alarms about public safety and the need for stricter enforcement of regulations governing nightlife establishments.
