The NTR Police Commissionerate in Vijayawada has reported a substantial improvement in law and order for the year 2025, with a notable decline in criminal activities across most major categories. According to the annual crime review released by Police Commissioner SV Rajasekhar Babu, the total number of crimes registered within the commissionerate limits fell by 21.66% compared to the previous year. This positive trend is attributed to sharper prevention strategies, improved detection capabilities, and stronger prosecution efforts.
Significant Decline in Property and Violent Crimes
A detailed comparative analysis of data from 2024 and 2025 reveals impressive reductions. Property offences witnessed a dramatic fall of 39.83%, dropping from 1,148 cases to 821. Within this category, ordinary theft cases decreased by 27.48%, house-breaking at night fell sharply by 39.24%, and robbery cases were reduced by 60%. Notably, dacoity was completely eliminated in 2025, compared to two cases in the preceding year.
Bodily offences also declined by 12.53%, from 1,015 to 902 cases. Murder cases saw a 14.71% reduction, culpable homicide fell by 42.86%, and rioting cases dropped by a significant 63.64%. However, attempt to murder cases saw a marginal increase of 4.55%.
Improved Safety for Women and Children
Crimes against women registered a welcome decline of 15.11%, with cases falling from 1,806 in 2024 to 1,569 in 2025. Marital offences decreased by 10%, and cases of outraging modesty of women fell sharply by 19%. Rape cases saw a marginal reduction of 3%. In a crucial area of child protection, cases registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act dropped by 23.64%, from 204 to 165.
Enhanced Detection and Recovery Rates
The police force not only prevented more crimes but also improved its performance in solving them. While reported property offences declined, the detection rate for these crimes rose impressively from 56.55% to 73%. The value of recovered property nearly doubled, increasing from ₹5.85 crore to ₹11.21 crore. Consequently, the recovery rate surged from 51.78% to 80.70%, even though the total value of property lost saw an increase.
Road Safety and Cybercrime Trends
Road safety indicators showed marked improvement. Total road accidents declined by 23.39%, with fatal accidents reducing by 16.58% and road accident deaths falling by 19.38%. Among the 366 road accident deaths in 2025, two-wheeler riders constituted the largest share (209), followed by pedestrians (107).
In the digital realm, cybercrime registered one of the sharpest declines, falling by 45.05% from 293 cases to 202. Despite fewer complaints, financial intervention in cyber fraud cases intensified, with the amount frozen or lien-marked rising from ₹8.26 crore to ₹9.54 crore.
Areas of Concern and Conviction Success
Contrary to the overall positive trend, a few areas saw an increase. NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) cases rose by 19.57%, and economic offences increased by 12.68, reflecting possibly intensified enforcement focus. Snatching cases also saw a marginal rise of 5.17%.
A major success story is the significant improvement in the judicial outcome of cases. The conviction rate jumped from 37% in 2024 to 50% in 2025, meaning every second case ended in conviction. The severity of sentencing also increased, with life sentences and sentences of 10 years and above both rising by 50%.
The annual review highlighted major investigative breakthroughs, including the detection of a ₹2.51 crore iPhone theft racket with recoveries, and the dismantling of an inter-state child trafficking network by the anti-trafficking unit. The report underscores a year of robust policing and effective crime control in the Vijayawada region under Commissioner SV Rajasekhar Babu's leadership.
