Former minister Vinay Kulkarni has filed an appeal against his conviction in the Yogesh Goudar murder case. The Karnataka High Court, while hearing the appeal, issued a notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Court's Observation
A division bench comprising Justices Mohammed Nawaz and Justice Venkatesh Naik T observed that the matter cannot be heard on merit at this stage. The bench stated that the appellant is at liberty to approach the vacation bench of the court in case of any urgency.
Background of the Case
Yogesh Goudar, a local leader, was murdered in 2016. Vinay Kulkarni, a former minister, was convicted by a trial court for his involvement in the murder. He was sentenced to life imprisonment. The appeal seeks to overturn this conviction.
The court has directed the CBI to file its response to the appeal. Further hearing is awaited.
