Violence Mars Flag-Hoisting Ceremony in Pune's Dhamane Village
A flag-hoisting ceremony in Dhamane village, located in Maval taluka of Pune district, descended into chaos and violence on Monday morning. The incident, which began as a heated argument between local officials, quickly escalated into a physical confrontation, resulting in severe injuries and the filing of cross-complaints at the Shirgaon police station.
Dispute Escalates into Violent Attack
According to police reports, the conflict originated from a verbal altercation between the deputy sarpanch and a member of the gram panchayat during the ceremonial event. Tensions boiled over when relatives of the gram panchayat member allegedly forced their way into the deputy sarpanch's residence. In a shocking turn of events, they reportedly attacked his family members with dangerous weapons, including an axe and sticks.
"Four family members sustained severe injuries in the assault," confirmed an officer from the Shirgaon police station. The violent nature of the attack prompted immediate police intervention and the registration of a formal case.
Legal Action Under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita
In response to the initial attack, police have registered a case against seven individuals under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The charges include serious sections such as:
- Section 109: Attempt to murder
- Section 333: House-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault, or wrongful restraint
- Sections 189, 190, and 191: Pertaining to rioting and unlawful assembly
These stringent legal provisions highlight the gravity of the incident and the potential consequences for those involved.
Counter-Complaint Filed by Opposing Party
Adding complexity to the situation, a female relative of the gram panchayat member filed a counter-complaint with the police. She alleged that following the initial argument, six members of the deputy sarpanch's family retaliated by attacking four people from her family with sticks.
Based on her statement, the Shirgaon police have registered a separate case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. This development indicates a deeply rooted conflict between the two parties, with both sides accusing each other of violent acts.
Ongoing Police Investigation
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with either complaint. "We are currently conducting a thorough investigation into both the complaints," stated a Shirgaon police officer. The authorities are meticulously examining the evidence and statements from all involved parties to determine the sequence of events and assign responsibility.
The incident has cast a shadow over the otherwise peaceful village of Dhamane, raising concerns about local governance and community harmony. Residents are anxiously awaiting the outcome of the police investigation, hoping for justice and a resolution to prevent future conflicts.
