According to police reports and the filed complaint, the incident occurred two days prior during a non-Hindu marriage ceremony in Emmemadu village. During this event, the groom reportedly dressed up as Koragajja, a local deity revered in the Kodagu region, while other participants allegedly behaved in a manner considered derogatory and disrespectful toward religious traditions.

The formal complaint was lodged by right-wing activist Radhakrishna Rai along with several right-wing organizations operating in the area.
