Vizag Court Imposes Life Sentence on Serial Killer for 2022 Triple Homicide
A court in Visakhapatnam, commonly known as Vizag, delivered a significant verdict on Thursday, sentencing serial killer Chandaka Rambabu, aged 49, to life imprisonment. The conviction stems from his involvement in the brutal murders of three individuals within the city in 2022, marking a closure to a case that had shaken the local community.
Details of the Gruesome Crimes
According to police reports, Rambabu's violent spree began in August 2022 when he battered to death Suthari Apparao, 72, and his wife Suthari Lakshmi, 62. Both victims were employed as guards at an under-construction building located in the Sapthagirinagar area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Pendurthi police station in Vizag. The double murder sent shockwaves through the neighborhood, highlighting vulnerabilities in security at construction sites.
In a chilling escalation, just a few days after these killings, Rambabu struck again. He murdered Appikonda Lakshmi at Sujatha Nagar in Pendurthi, where she was also working in another under-construction building. This third victim underscored the killer's pattern of targeting individuals in similar occupational settings, raising concerns about safety protocols in the construction industry.
Court's Ruling and Financial Penalties
The court not only handed down the life sentence but also imposed additional penalties to address the gravity of the crimes. Rambabu was slapped with a fine of Rs 30,000 for each of the two murder cases, totaling Rs 60,000. Furthermore, in a move to provide some solace to the bereaved families, the court directed the government to pay compensation of Rs one lakh to each of the victims' families. This financial aspect of the verdict aims to offer support and acknowledge the profound loss suffered by the relatives.
The conviction and sentencing come after a thorough investigation by the Pendurthi police, who pieced together evidence linking Rambabu to all three murders. The case has drawn attention to the need for enhanced vigilance and law enforcement efforts in urban areas to prevent such heinous acts.
As the community in Vizag processes this verdict, it serves as a reminder of the importance of justice in addressing violent crimes and providing closure to affected families. The life imprisonment ensures that Rambabu will be held accountable for his actions, potentially deterring similar offenses in the future.
