Wanted Criminal with Rs 50,000 Bounty Killed in Muzaffarnagar Police Encounter
In a dramatic late-night operation, a wanted criminal carrying a bounty of Rs 50,000 was shot dead during a police encounter in the Budhana police station area of Muzaffarnagar district on Thursday morning. The incident also left two policemen with bullet injuries, though they are reported to be out of danger.
Encounter Details and Police Action
The encounter unfolded in a forested stretch off Vigyan Road after police received a crucial tip-off regarding the movement of the accused, who was involved in multiple cases of robbery and violent crime. According to authorities, the suspect opened fire when police teams attempted to intercept him, leading to retaliatory firing.
During the intense exchange of fire, the suspect, identified as Amjad Ahmed (35), a resident of Harsauli village, was hit by bullets. He was rushed to a nearby hospital along with the injured policemen but succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Injured Policemen and Recovered Evidence
The injured policemen have been identified as Sub-inspector Sandeep Kumar and constable Ashfaq Ahmed. Both sustained gunshot wounds but are now stable and recovering. From the encounter site, police recovered significant evidence, including a 9 mm carbine, a pistol, a motorcycle, cartridges, stolen jewellery, mobile phones, and various documents.
Criminal Background and Police Operation
SSP Sanjay Kumar Verma stated that the operation was conducted jointly by teams from Budhana, Shahpur, and Titavi police stations under the supervision of senior officers, including SP (Rural) Aditya Bansal. Police records reveal that Amjad Ahmed had nearly 40 criminal cases registered against him, spanning charges of robbery, murder, dacoity, and kidnapping.
He was a wanted figure across multiple districts in Uttar Pradesh as well as in Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand, making his capture a high priority for law enforcement agencies.
Legal Proceedings and Forensic Examination
Legal formalities are currently underway following the encounter. The seized weapons and stolen property have been sent for forensic examination to gather further evidence and support the investigation.
