Pratapgarh: A wanted accused, who had escaped from police custody at SRN Hospital in Prayagraj on April 21 where he was taken for DNA sampling in connection with a pending rape case, was injured and arrested following an encounter with the Manikpur police of Pratapgarh late Friday night.
The accused sustained bullet injuries in both legs during the incident.
Details of the Encounter
According to police, Manikpur Station House Officer (SHO) Narendra Singh, along with his team, was conducting routine checking when they received a tip-off that the accused, armed with an illegal weapon, was heading towards Karenti via the Ganga bridge to meet his lawyer.
The police team set up a checkpoint near the Karenti tri-junction. When the suspect was spotted and asked to stop, he allegedly opened fire on the police team. In self-defence, the police retaliated, during which the accused was shot in both legs and subsequently arrested.
Accused Identification
The accused has been identified as Jalaluddin alias Dabbu (50), a resident of Nai Bazar Rahwai under Kunda police station in Pratapgarh. Police recovered a country-made .315 bore pistol, two live cartridges, and one empty shell from his possession.
Medical Condition
He was first taken to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Kalakankar and later referred to the district hospital, where his condition is reported to be stable.
