In a disturbing series of events, two young girls sustained serious injuries in separate wolf attacks within the forested region of Bahraich district on Friday morning. The incidents, occurring in villages near the Kaisarganj forest, have sparked alarm and prompted an urgent response from local forest authorities.
Early Morning Horror in Mallahanpurwa
The first attack unfolded in Mallahanpurwa village, where a wolf brazenly entered a house in the early hours. The animal targeted a five-year-old girl who was asleep at the time. The wolf attempted to drag the child away, but her terrified screams alerted family members who rushed to her aid.
Startled by the sudden commotion and the arrival of people, the predator dropped the girl a short distance from the house and fled into the surrounding darkness. The child, however, was left with deep wounds from the attack and required immediate medical attention.
Second Attack in Baburi Village
In a similarly terrifying incident on the same morning, another five-year-old girl became the victim of a wolf attack in nearby Baburi village. This time, the child was playing outside her home when the animal struck.
Quick-thinking villagers raised a loud alarm upon seeing the attack. The noise and gathering crowd forced the wolf to release the girl, after which it escaped towards a dense sugarcane field. The injured child was swiftly transported by ambulance to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Kaisarganj, where she is currently undergoing treatment.
Forest Department's Response and Public Advisory
District Forest Officer Ram Singh Yadav confirmed that both attacks were carried out by wolves. He stated that the forest department has taken the matter with utmost seriousness.
Special teams have been deployed to trace and monitor the movements of the wolves, with the operation being aided by drone technology. This modern approach aims to cover large areas of the forest terrain efficiently.
Officer Yadav issued a crucial advisory to residents of villages bordering the forest. He urged people to:
- Remain highly vigilant, especially during early morning and late evening hours.
- Avoid leaving children unattended, particularly in open areas or near forest fringes.
- Report any sighting of wolves or suspicious animal activity to forest officials immediately.
These back-to-back attacks highlight the ongoing challenge of human-wildlife conflict in regions adjacent to forest habitats. The use of drones represents a proactive step by authorities to locate the animals and prevent further incidents, while the community's cooperation is deemed essential for safety.
