A woman in Uttar Pradesh's Beniganj Kotwali area has alleged that she was abducted, tied to a tree, and assaulted by a man after she rejected his marriage proposal, police said on Sunday.
According to Circle Officer Ajit Chauhan, the incident took place on May 11. Police said a case was registered based on a complaint filed by the victim's brother, and the woman was immediately sent for medical examination.
The officer said the victim later informed police about additional injuries that were not mentioned in the initial medical examination, following which further investigation was initiated.
"Legal actions are ongoing, and efforts to arrest the accused are continuous," Chauhan said.
The victim alleged that she was returning home from a wedding around 11 pm when a man identified as Atul intercepted her. "He grabbed me and abducted me. He tied me to a tree and assaulted me," the woman alleged.
According to the victim, the accused had asked her to marry him, but she refused the proposal. Police said further investigation into the matter is underway.
Authorities have assured that all legal measures are being taken to ensure justice for the victim. The accused remains at large, and police are conducting raids to apprehend him.
